Hi. Thanks for visiting. This is a camera I installed in a Kestrel Nest box in NW Boise, Idaho. For 2025 a pair of kestrels have shown up and appear to have made the box home. They make a few visits a day.

At night the camera is running, but it is a complete black out. I have infrared lights for the camera, but I see no reason on turning them on. As a human, I can see IR lights and they bug me. No point bugging the birds. Any way at this point in the season they are spending the nights elsewhere. The female spent one night in the box. Today January 27, she is in the box now. Of course it is completely dark.

I built the Kestrel box in 2023 and to my utter disbelief a pair of kestrels showed up, moved in and in June produced four fledglings.

I built a Arduino based esp32cam with Wi-Fi and solar power which works fine for jpeg uploads to a web gallery. But the WI-FI and the iffy solar-power source weren't getting the consistent data rate for a video stream. And as with any project along the Arduino line it just kept running down the timeline until the timeline passed me by. So we missed having a camera in the box for that season. In 2024 due to lack of organizational skills a pair of squirrels took over the box. The varmint guard was in disrepair and the furry tailed rats took over. I have fixed the guard.
